WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2007 released!

November 15th 2006 11:00

Finally fans of the series and WWE alike can treat themselves to the new installment of the popular wrestling game which this time sees its way on the Sony PS2, PSP and Microsoft’s Xbox 360! Yep, this title is not only exclusive to Sony consoles anymore, so those Xbox fans can finally put their gaming mittens on this game. But what does it offer over its previous title?

Not much, just a modified grappling system, money in the bag match and an ‘updated’ roster of wrestlers (but not as up to date as this month pre se). The grappling system allows players to perform a larger variety of moves which will add a greater flavor to battles. For example, when the gamer lifts up their opponent, they will be able to pull off different moves in different directions adding more variation and impact to the match. Weaponry has also been upgraded with players being able to throw their opponent into the stands and slam them with a whole heap of objects ranging from fire extinguishers to fan’s signs.

Online play has been included in this title, with Xbox 360 gamers able to play up to 4 players simultaneously online. Players can also unlock a variety of extras when they play more online games and win certain titles in game. GM mode is also back with players being able to run the ‘managerial’ aspect of wrestling. This includes hiring story writers, setting up rosters and creating feuds between wrestlers. Moreover, there are 40 separate storylines in standard play which will entertain gamers for quite a while (feuds leading to pay-per-views…why watch it on TV when you can play it!).

Graphically the game looks very nice, but load times will annoy gamers, especially Xbox 360 gamers who would expect quick load times (which are a problem in this title). Sound is also very pleasing with commentary and music at a very high standard. Overall this title is very good but not really a great improvement over the 2006 title. Xbox owners however will be very happy to see it on their console, PS3 owners (or will be I should say) will be disappointed to find out that their version was cancelled (for the time being).

Great pictures Dani.

It's funny how the managerial aspect of sports games has really taken off in the last 5 years or so. But no more so vital as in wrestling where a good 50% of watching is for the drama if not a good deal more.
Will check this one out definitely.

Hey Justin, the graphics do look fine! Yeah I also agree with you, since the 'storyline' in wrestling is what makes people watch it... (well we all know its scripted ). So to be your own manager in a game has proven quite successful in the past few games.
