WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 preview
April 24th 2006 16:29
Based on the highly successful Smackdown and Raw wrestling television shows, wrestling fans are in for a treat when THQ release another fine fighting game for the latest consoles. If you aren’t familiar with the series, the shows basically pit oiled up, muscle bound men (and women for that matter) against one another in comical storylines and entertaining twists.
For those who have played the current release title of this series WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 on the PS2 and PSP, you will be asking the question…what more can they do to make me purchase this ‘new’ title? Well Yuke’s Media Creations, the developer of the title, has opted to focus on the small bits and pieces which could have been done better in the past titles. This includes new graphical improvements and fighting style changes.
Graphic-wise, characters in the game will be finely detailed, from their tattoos and finely defined muscles, to the sweat build up on their bodies and change in facial expressions as a fight progresses.
Moreover, wrestlers will be able to be thrown into the crowd, which is now over 1000 strong of completely 3-dimensional people. Popcorn will fly and fans will cheer individually for characters as the crowd becomes more involved in the fights. This is quite valuable as the bland and poorly created crowds in most sports games tend to really lower the overall realism of being 'in' the game.
Regarding fighting styles, a new grappling system will be in place including a quick and strong grab, with players being able to use the analog sticks to position and move opponents into different arrangements. This will add more dimensions to the game play, and provide a larger variety of moves for players to accomplish without a boring repetition of moves.
Expect an updated roster and online play to follow when WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 heads to the Xbox360, Sony PSP, PS2 and PS3 by the end of 2006.

Yeah, the N64 versions were quite fun especially No Mercy and Wrestlemania.
I also think that during the WCW days, WWF was producing some excellent plots and fights. But ever since WCW went broke and WWE had no more competition (almost), then the shows became pretty repetitive and bland. I still think they are great but not as good as they used to be :/

Ermmm...or maybe just cos I haven't played a "WWF" game in yonks!! The last time I played was on my SNES!! LOL!!
Nice review though! Should I decide to part with my hard earned and purchase a PSP, this game would be worth a *cough* download *cough*
