World of Warcraft Visa card!
May 6th 2007 08:21
Believe or not…but gamers of Blizzard’s highly addictive MMORPG - World Of Warcraft, can now be ‘paid to play’ (well sort of). In a marketing tactic people who use this Visa card can accumulate WoW game time significant to 1% for each dollar spent on their credit card (i.e USD $0.01 credit toward the monthly $14.95 payment to play WoW).. Along with that, upon subscription to the card gives players 1 free month of gameplay, including no annual credit card fees
Damn, Blizzard really want to suck every single dollar from gamers – putting them into a spiral of spending money in the hope of gaining enough points of credit to earn a free month subscription to the game. I would think that gamers will essentially start spending those extra dollars when they go to the shops (that’s if they ever go out in the first place) and impulse buy in order to gain that credit.
I really feel that although this is an excellent marketing campaign for Blizzard which will essentially draw good criticism from the older gamers who spend more money on their credit cards. But my personal view is that Blizzard is becoming very greedy and this is one reason why I really dislike MMORPG games and their developers/distubitors. Money, money, money – what ever happened to brilliant gameplay and enjoyment. Now we must pay excessive amounts of money to have fun – give me a break (ahem Sony that includes you).
