W T F on the PSP!

Work Time Fun – catchy title for this nifty little PSP game full of mini games to keep you company while on the run. This title is comprised of a collection of mini-games which essentially waste your time. Players are given a range of jobs in which they must solve puzzles, press certain button combinations or count images within certain time frames and at certain speeds. As the difficulty increases, so does the speed and the amount of items the player must retrieve or kill.
Essentially, players will be rewarded with money which can be used in a gumball machine to redeem prizes. I am quite sceptical of this title, as it really doesn’t bring anything new to the portable gaming scene. At this day and age in the videogame industry, we expect addictive and interesting game titles especially those which can harness the power of the PSP and actually represent the cost that gamers are willing to pay for the game. This title looks like a game that will become quite boring quite quickly.
One mini game example is a game where a hand is on a table and sharp pointer moves across the table between the fingers. Players must press a button and time their presses so they don’t actually hit the fingers of the hand. As the time increases, so does the speed of the pointer’s movement…quite dull and mind numbing. Another example is a wood chopping game where players must press a button to chop wood on a chopping block and avoid killing rabbits that are placed there. Hmmm…again similar gameplay that is quite boring.
Graphic wise, I am pretty sure they match the graphics on my Sega Master System (and that came out in the 80s). Not impressive and certainly not a title that should appear on the graphically powerful PSP.
The game will be released on the PSP late September this year but I don’t see much anticipation for this title. Quite simple and the fun won’t last you long enough for your train ride to work. I would give it a miss and pick up a more impressive PSP title such as Pursuit Force.
