Two developers clash! - E3 Quote - Trivia
July 25th 2007 12:20
This is something you don’t see every day; two game developers at log-heads over licensing issues. This is quite serious and is the type of gaming news stepping out of the ‘standard soft news’ with something ‘hard’ like reports found in the news section of newspapers.
Games ‘cross the law’ news!
In the court room, Silicon Knights has sued Epic (Gears of War) games for not helping to fix the game developer’s problem with the Unreal Engine 3.
Epic has sold the license of the engine over to Silicon Knights (SK) for creating games.
However SK found difficulties using the engine that resulted in their latest game, Too Human, from being released.
Money lost from promoting the game has made the company suffer and wants compensation from Epic’s lack of support in fixing their engine. A court date or a response from Epic has yet to be released.

Interesting Trivia:
Developmag has posted a really interesting side-note on one of the reasons why developers are heading to the Wii: it's cheaper to make games!
Expenses to make a Wii game is around $1.1million to $4m while it would cost $10m-12m to make one PS3 or 360 game.
Smaller teams of 15 can efficiently create a Wii game, while it might take a larger team to create a decent PS3/360 game, which contributes to low cost in production.
Quote of the Week – The E3 Press experience!
No quote can sum up the E3 press conferences any better than Vice President of Capcom Europe, Mark Beaumont, has told Gamesindustry.biz:
"Each [conference] had their positive moments. Microsoft has a very strong line-up for the fall, nothing that we didn't already know, but when you see it in aggregate it does make a statement. Nintendo is obviously exceptionally hot at this point, they're clearly going to continue with the mass market approach and new peripherals. Sony is obviously committed to Home"
