Trackmania!

I've had Trackmania on my computer for a while now, and though I don't really play it, it's a great thing to have around.
It's totally free to download, install, play and share with your friends - but, best of all, it offers insane high speed car racing, the kind that'll have you cheering out of your seats.
To be honest, the racing is unusually unrealistic, but so finely honed to provide a pleasurable experience that you'll get up in the morning, excited to play another couple of matches.
With the online play connected to free servers, you'll never run out of people to race against, even if they all cheat.
No, just kidding... there's not too many ways that people can cheat. There are no collisions, unfortunately, so your car will just pass through each other like ghosts walking through each other on the moors.
I suppose the saddest part of Trackmania is that it reminds you that everyday racing is nothing like this, with not even the slightest of loop-de-loops or ramps. No, my boring car keeps its boring wheels on the boring ground.
Trackmania also comes with a track editor, so if you tire of beating the rubber off the computer, you can make your own tracks, as diabolical as you like, then upload them and cackle as unsuspecting players fly off into their demise.
No, no pits of acid, or swinging axes, unfortunately - but there are curves that'll make you pass out from the G-forces. The G-forces!
