Tony Hawk going downhill

…not in a bad way though! Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam is the next instalment in the Tony Hawk series and will feature on the handheld console, the Nintendo DS (just to name one) which plays similarly to its predecessors, but changes the flow of the game entirely. As the name states, this game will feature maps which are basically set in downhill motion.
The gameplay is fast with players being able to race 3 other competitors in pulling off fancy skating moves or finishing the map in the quickest possible time. Interestingly, players who do not complete a trick properly will not ‘stack’ it on their head or back like previous titles (causing a stop to the flow of the game) but will be able to continue moving on the course with slight penalties for mistiming. This helps the flow of the race continue which is a nice addition for players who get really annoyed when they make errors during a difficult trick combo.
Online play is also included in this title for the DS, with players being able to communicate with their opponents (in 5 second intervals) using the onboard microphone on the DS. I find this to be another nice addition to the title which proves that gaming technology, especially in hand held format is progressing nicely.
This title should be released on the DS this October and also on the Nintendo Wii by the end of the year.
