Preview: Street Fighter IV
January 1st 2008 03:00
The wait is almost over for the new generation of Street Fighter - the most loved arcade fighter game of the nineties and one of the greats of all time.
The first ever official details of Street Fighter IV has just emerged and it sounds mighty impressive (if I can get you to stop staring at the hi-res screenshot posted above and keep reading)!
It has been confirmed that the game's graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D which comes as a welcome change from the Street Fighter EX series and the raft of 3D fighter games swamping the market - think Tekken, Virtua Fighter etc.
The standard six button control scheme and gameplay remains - no gamer could possibly forget how to do a hadoken or uppercut - plus new moves, locations, and gameplay features. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Dhalsim characters have been confirmed, but the remaining roster (of 16 or so characters) is unknown at this stage.
Check out this video of the Street Fighter IV game play (Note: This is currently still in development and is NOT the end product!)
No word yet on platforms for the game to be released on either, but the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 are safe bets. Will Nintendo fans get to fire a hadoken on the magic wand controller of the Wii? A mouth-watering prospect, yes but again, we will have to wait for news from Capcom on that.
