Street Fighter glory – An Alpha Anthology

A few days ago I did a review on the King of Fighters: Neowave which landed on the PS2 recently. Well, 2D fighter fans can rejoice once again when Capcom returns with their classic Street Fighter series that will hit the PS2 in June.
This time around Capcom will release an Alpha game package – or an Anthology so to speak. As the name suggests it will include all alpha titles in the series; 1, 2 (and Alpha 2 Gold – a Japanese special release title) and 3. Alpha 3 is one of my favourites as I absolutely love playing it on the train with my PSP
. Additionally, Capcom has thrown in Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix which puts small–cute looking – Street Fighter characters into an amusing *little* beat em up. Controls remain the same along with the specific combos, charges and game modes (including VS, Arcade, Training etc) which are found in all the fighting titles. It’s great to also see that the graphics have come along as arcade perfect with gameplay running at full speed and accompanied by the original alpha music tracks (although I don’t think they are as catchy as the original Street Fighter music tracks!).
New gamers to the series should definitely try this collection out as it basically puts all the characters and gameplay from the Alpha series into one nifty collection. Street Fighter fans…well it is a collector’s item and it’s even better with the PS2 controller – so grab a copy.
