Spore is the most pirated game out there

Spore is the highly anticipated game from Maxis that brings the fruit of Will Wright's fertile mind to your gaming machine.
Unfortunately, gamers are furious that EA, the publisher of the game, has used the highly unpopular DRM system called SecurRom. The system causes huge issues with people trying to reinstall the game, limiting the user to three installs, then you have to call EA and beg for another activation.
I can sympathize with gamers, especially since the game only allows you to create one account. Want another account for your kids or spouse? Buy another copy of the game!
It's only fair that the nasty DRM system has resulted in Spore being pirated on a massive scale.
"People are understandably angry and upset at Electronic Arts for exerting this kind of dictatorial power over its customers, and it looks like they are doing what they can to punish the publisher.
"The numbers are extraordinary," exclaimed Eric Garland, boss of P2P researcher Big Champagne. "This is a very high level of torrent activity even for an immensely popular game title.""

I can't feel sorry for EA... market forces are the only thing that we have, as consumers, to fight against the big companies. Pirating software is not something I'd advocate, but, unlike stealing a sofa or an inflatable sex doll, downloading the game doesn't really hurt the company, except that they miss out on a sale.
It's fair to say that the DRM has scared gamers away - EA probably hoped that the game itself would compel the sales to escalate, but people don't like being pushed around!
" The right thing it may not entirely be, but EA was kind of asking for it. If you punish your paying customers by using detrimental DRM, something like this is bound to happen. It also proves that SecuROM doesn't bloody work, either."
Is it the right thing to do? I'm pretty happy just not playing the game...
