Solid Snake returns in Portable Ops for the PSP

May 15th 2006 07:18

At last PSP owners can rejoice when Solid Snake returns to the PSP - not in a puzzle genre following the interesting offshoot of the Acid series, but in a Metal Gear Solid: 3 sequel! This title will continue 6 years after Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ended, and Snake will be up against the FOX unit that has tarnished his good name.

This title was on display at the E3 2006 (Los Angeles) and looked quite stunning graphically and control wise. Kojima Productions looks to squeeze every bit of energy offered by the PSP’s hardware and produce another remarkable game to the growing chapters in Metal Gear Solid.

The control structure of the title will follow the same style used on the Playstation 2, and being designed as a Sony controller, the PSP allowed the developers to port the controls over almost identically to the PS2 version of the game.

Multiplayer mode is a strong point in this title, with PSP owners able to challenge friends wirelessly in a room or even online. Online games will allow players to form alliances and teams and challenge each other in an online arena (or against computer AI). This is taking the Metal Gear series to a new level, and finally utilising the online gaming realm which has become almost essential for a game to succeed in the long run.

Portable Ops looks like an excellent title and one with many new innovative features which will draw a larger selection of gamers. A strong storyline, excellent graphics, multiplayer modes and fluid controls will make this title another gem in the series and a must buy for fans and PSP owners alike.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops will be released by the end of 2006 on the Sony PSP.
