Snowboarding mayhem on the Wii…SSX Blur

EA Games continues this classic string of snowboarding games with a new title on the Wii named SSX Blur which hits the console next month. There are the ups and downs of this title, with the ‘ups’ in my view running strong and in the right direction to make a good mark on the Wii when this title is released. As with any other Wii title, the controlling scheme in place in SSX Blur gives the game an edge, instead of leaving gamers with another cliché snowboarding title.
On the ‘ups’, the player can use the nun-chuck and remote to move their snowboarder from left to right and tilt them in different directions while zipping around the track. Moreover, if the player isn’t satisfied with the sensitivity of the controller, then this can also be adjusted in game which will make a lot less annoyance for players still getting used to the whole motion sensor gameplay environment of the Wii.
On the ‘downs’, the graphics and overall presentation of the game is still very reminiscent of the previous titles on the Gamecube and PS2. This certainly relates to the graphical weakness of the Wii compared to the other new-gen consoles, but at the end of the day this game will really feel like a PS2 title of SSX with motion sensor controls as the only addition. However, previous levels from the SSX titles will also reappear in this game, along with a large selection of characters to choose from.
Overall this is a fun game and will be even more so with the Wii controllers. Multiplayer modes are also present, which will make a blast when a group of friends try to ‘out-do’ each other either in races or in tricks. I always love to film my friends playing with the Wii (especially boxing), as it truly is hilarious watching them wiggle around like worms infront of the television!
