Sega brings side scrolling fun to the Wii

Back in the old Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) days, game developer Treasure released an interesting and addictive side-stroller named Gunstar Heroes. Thirteen years later, and countless titles following the same gameplay, Sega is re-releasing this title on the Wii. When I first heard of this title, it did not really strike me as one which really made an impact in the old-gen days of gaming. Still, this game looks to be a good title with high resemblance to the Metal Slug series (from what I can see!).
Gunstar is easy to play, though difficult to finish and should appeal to gamers who like simple 2D graphics in a comic like atmosphere. Multiplayer functionality is also present in this title, with players being able to work alongside each other to complete missions and support each other in difficult instances. Weapons are also various, ranging from rifles, flame throwers to lasers…although what the whole storyline of the game focuses on is quite bizarre. Players essentially play a Gunstar twin, who must save the world from an evil villain who has stolen a whole heap of mystical gems. Moreover, it is the player’s aim to recover them.
Gamers should expect big boss battles with high action and quick decisions. I would recommend this title but only if it is released as a budget price since I cannot see a high longevity of the title once it is finished. Looking at Metal Slug for example, a whole collection has been released on the PS2 which will provide many many hours of entertainment. Gunstar however will be pretty much useless once players master the difficult areas of the game and complete it in quick time. This game is currently available in the US on the Wii.
