RTS bliss: Command & Conquer 3

Next year EA Games is set to release the next instalment in the classic C&C real time strategy series with Tiberium Wars. The Brotherhood of Nod is pit against the ‘good’ GDI in another epic battle and this time EA has stepped back into the ‘old’ C&C set up. This includes full motion videos (FMVs) played out by real actors (as it was played back in the original C&C days) and the utilisation of tanks and classic weaponry – as opposed to laser rifles ..ergh
I have been an avid fan of Westwood Studies when they created the original C&C title, one of which I think really established the RTS scene (alongside Blizzard’s Warcraft series). But after Red Alert, I felt that the series had really lost it punch. Tiberium Sun was in my eyes a huge set back for the franchise with futuristic weaponry and merch like combat being too ‘futuristic’ for my gaming flavour. In addition to that, EA Games bought the rights to create the new instalments of the C&C series and Generals wasn’t too flash either. I found it filled with bugs and lacking the strong multiplayer and RTS stronghold that Warcraft 3 still has too this day!
Graphic wise, this game should be a spectacle to watch with individual units detailed to the last millimetre. RTS games have come a long way now, and with the increase in graphical output becoming the norm in most new computers and gaming machines. I honestly hope that EA does not screw this title up as that would be a last straw for the mighty C&C franchise. But so far it doesn’t look that glum with EA returning to the roots of the game’s layout and one which I am looking forward to when it is released. Check back soon for a review when the game when the game hits out shelves next year.
