PS3 production problems fixed (and my 2 cents)
July 2nd 2007 12:40
Reports from compoundsemiconductor.net, says Sony has released new information on PS3 production: that all systems are go.
"Production problems have now ceased, we're in full production as far as Playstation 3 is concerned” said a spokesperson from Sony.
Problems with slow production on blue lasers for the PS3 Blueray player, has caused PS3 shortages around the world. Now Sony are making 1.7 million blue lasers per month.
There has been 5.5 million ps3 consoles sold world wide by the end of March 2007, and Sony expects to shift 11 million units by April 2008.
(Warning: my 2 cents, no news here) While we, Australians, are waiting for the price drop to happen. $999 is how much a PS3 costs at the Down Under launch, how did that affect us?; there was a report of more work attendants than buyers at the launch, no surprise.
There had been unfounded (so far) and negative reports about our PS3 consoles in Australia, with reports on Australian PS3’s using cheaper hardware to run PS2 and Playstation games, and SCEA’s managing director, Michael Ephraim, claims GfK has the numbers of PS3’s sold since launch: 50,000 consoles. I, so far, haven’t found any data from the GfK website showing 50,000 PS3 consoles being sold, so the claim is still in speculation (and not really news).
What I’m whining about is Sony announcing big numbers of PS3 consoles about to be released, really does not concern Australia at all – just getting the system to sell here is the main problem.
