Powerstone (Super Smash Bros. wannabe) returns!

Capcom is following the ‘re-release’ band wagon with Powerstone Compilation coming out next month for the PSP. This nice little compilation is formed of Powerstone 1 and 2 which were released on the Sega Dreamcast around 6 years ago (yes it has been 6 years…wow!).
Powerstone in my opinion was a sleeper hit and should have been noted as a big competitor to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series. It played in the same manner but involved more side scrolling levels with added bosses and weaponry. Multiplayer action was fun and quick but not as ‘physical’ so to say as Super Smash Bros., but more reliant on weaponry. Players can chose baseball bats, laser rifles and long range grenades to name a few items and even get into mini tanks that fire rockets and push enemies off the side of the map! Boy I used to have so much fun with my mates ‘dogging’ them in a corner with the mini tank lol…
The compilation will have all the options and levels found in the originals, with added unlockable minigames and movies that coincide with the game. That’s a nice little addition which should satisfy diehard fans of the game. Graphically, Powerstone Compilation looks pretty good but not quite as sharp as the Dreamcast graphics which looks like a bit of a let down.
Expect multiplayer modes to be fun and played with up to four other players who own a PSP. This is a deciding factor in most games of this stature, and Capcom has pulled it off quite successfully with an addictive and colourful title as a result. I recommend this title wholly when it is released and can be enjoyed by all ages…but more so with a group of friends.
