Point Blank on the DS!
June 25th 2006 02:55
Who would have thought, Dr. Dan and Don would make their way from the arcade big screens to the portable Nintendo DS. But hold on a minute, aren’t the Point Blank games which made these 2 famous, played in arcades and homes across the world with a light gun? Surly there must be a mistake. Well there is no mistake about it, this game is available on the DS, however no light gun is used (for those who don’t know, a light gun is the handheld gun you point on the screen to shot –duh!).
The gameplay of this title revolves around using the stylus and touch screen built into the DS. Players will be confronted with over 40 mini-games which come from the Point Blank series, and must test their accuracy and speed within a timeframe to tap the touch screen to complete certain tasks. One mini-game for example includes tapping the piranhas in order to save one of the doctors from being eaten.
This looks interesting, with fans of the series being able to relive some of the mini-games in ‘tap-screen’ format. The game will also appeal to other gamers who really want to take advantage of the Nintendo DS stylus and the touch screen feature. In my opinion however, the mini-games will become quite dull and boring after a few goes of tapping the screen furiously. I would rather pick up my old g-con 45 plug it into my PSX and play the classic Point Blank all over again!
Point Blank DS is available now for the Nintendo DS, however I only recommend it to those who are die hard fans of the Point Blank series or really wish to play a game which takes advantage of the touch screen feature of the DS. Otherwise, plug in your old PSX and play the classic Point Blank (or buy it cheap from eBay or a second hand store!).
