Playstation 3 delayed till 2007!

The news is in and it doesn’t sound good at all for most gamers around the world with Sony announcing that the PS3 will not be launched in November this year…but in March next year! Europe and Australasia are just some regions that have been placed back once again due to ‘shortage of consoles due to mass demand’. Don’t despair though, Japan and North America release dates still remain set on the 11th and 17th of November which will keep the ‘important’ segment of gamers happy (well NTSC wise).
I am quite disgusted at hearing this news as Sony yet again focuses on different segments of the market (discriminately). Microsoft on the other hand pulled off the release of the Xbox 360 nicely and did not repeatedly delay the release of the console which has been out for some time now. Sony still seems to be digging itself in a hole with the PS3 with the same excuses as too much demand, not enough supply. Lack of planning and management it looks.
This will place the PS3 some 7 years after the PS2 was released which is pretty weak in releasing new hardware in this day and age. I have also been reading articles that games developers are cancelling projects for the PS3 since it costs too much to produce a game on this console. There will be a low proportion of the market who will own a PS3 and hence not really any point to create a game for it (at least so in the initial stages of the console’s life).
Whilst I sit here whinging about Sony however, I still think some hardcore gamers will go out and somehow purchase a PS3 from Japan or the US and use a power converter to play it through local power supplies. The only problem is if Sony has continued region encoding their games. Last time I heard, Sony might not follow this region encoding as they showed with the handheld PSP, but don’t take my word on it…since the gaming market prices and release titles depends on local games being sold. We will just have to wait and see.
Sigh…I guess this gives me more time to save…
