Playing Oblivion drunk can lead to horrors
November 18th 2008 22:17
A forum poster on Facepunch Studios posted an interesting story, about how he got really, really drunk one night and blacked out, not remembering coming home or going to bed.
When he started up Oblivion the next day, though, he realized that many hours had been played in the game and that he must have played it drunk. Even more horrifying, he realized that, in his inebriation, he had gone on a wild killing spree, killing many of the characters in the game.
He treats us to a screenshot:
It's similar to the feeling that Dr. Jekyll must have had, the day after, nursing a terrible hangover but awakening to find a severed human hand in his cap. And then severed hands all over the doorstop. And in his breadbasket.
He notes that, in four hours, while totally hammered drunk, he managed to accomplish quite a bit:
He's a bad mutha.
Oblivion is, of course, one of these freeform sandbox games, that aims to let the player choose their own path, ignoring the main storyline if they choose, interacting with the world.
With great freedom, though, comes the ability to abuse it... with alcohol coursing through his veins, this player's inhibitions were removed, allowing him to become the bastard he always wanted to be.

"In 4 four hours, for a guy that’s leveled his character through ninety hours already, I managed to:
Murder 131 people
Assault 65 people
Steal 198 items
Build up a bounty of 99575 coins
Build up an infamy of 140 points
Steal 1 horse (though they don’t account for horse murders)"

He wants me to play it to see what happens to me, but I dont think I need to be drunk to reach a body count like that!
