Play F.E.A.R online for FREE!

August 18th 2006 10:23

Yep hard to believe but true! Sierra are giving gamers the chance to download and play F.E.A.R Combat online without paying a cent (without owning the original). The catch? Well most probably the fact that this is the online component of the game without the epic single player campaign of the original title. None-the-less this free game is jammed with 19 maps, 12 weapons and 10 game modes supporting a full frenzy of online play.

I am head over heals and already in the process of downloading the game (which is approximately 1.4Gb) and hitting the arena! But before players can play, they must register for a free cd-key which will be emailed to their account allowing them to log in to F.E.A.R Combat.

Now I can see this similarly to the strategy Sierra did when the released Counter Strike for free ages ago as an add-on the classic Half Life title. So perhaps this is a free game for keeps. On the other hand, perhaps this is just bait with an eventual expiration of player’s cd-keys forcing them to pay up once they have become addicted to the game (yes those gaming companies are sly after all…the wonders of marketing). This might occur later if this title does become quite popular but gamers these days might not be swayed to spend that extra cash for the feeling they have been scammed into playing the game for free then charged. But don’t get me wrong…many gamers are mature and are willing to pay that extra buck…but from my experience (and through friends) such schemes are annoying and may not be successful.

Anyways, I suggest you head over to the Official site and register for a free cd-key (takes minutes) and download the free game. I do warn you though (if you don’t know already), this title needs a pretty beefy PC to run it smoothly…and playing online without a doubt needs a quick connection to boot. Happy fragging and cheers to Sierra for giving us a freebie.
