Play a surgeon in Trauma Center: Under the Knife!
January 7th 2007 13:12
Previously released on the Nintendo DS, Trauma Center is back on the Wii and this time continues to heavily use an interactive ‘point-and-click’ interface. This is an interesting game which sets players in an anime theme of playing a surgeon in an engaging storyline. Players will find themselves in a first person perspective making incisions, removing traumas and patching up their patient under a strict time limit and stress.
The concept of this title is quite innovative in the use of the stylus on the DS and now the sensor-dependant controls of the Wii. Players can select a variety of medical instruments such as bandages and scalpels one the none-chukka and begin operating with the other controller. Some players might become annoyed with levels that require high accuracy when performing incisions, but I think that will add a greater deal of focus and involvement in the gameplay.
Graphically, the title is quite bland, with nothing mind-blowing. The graphics are simple though, and get to the point with more focus on gameplay rather than bloody organs or deep flesh wounds (ouch). This opens up a higher gaming audience who can thus play the game without feeling squeamish! One downfall I find with this title however is the lack of cut-scene animation, with anime style cartoons dominating the game with little voice and a lot of text. Although I think this is a weakness, the storyline is still strong and yet again the motion-sensor gameplay will put the gamer in the position of the doctor and deeper into the gameplay.
This title was released as a launch title on the Wii and should be available in your shop right now. Although, when I looked for the DS version, I was quite annoyed with the lack of knowledge or actual copies of the game at my local game shop. Just hope this won’t become another sleeper hit!
