Operation Flashpoint 2 to be most realistic game to date!
April 26th 2007 13:18
Six years ago a military title hit PCs and made a great impact to the war genre of games – alongside Rainbow 6, Rogue Spear, and Counterstrike. This game was Operation Flashpoint and placed players into the Cold-War era and in a platoon filled with members who attained different skills and weaponry. Combat was done in long range and ambushing, with vehicle usage being another key factor (with teamwork) to defeating enemies.
Codemaster’s Operation Flashpoint really set the mark for titles such as Battlefield 2 and successive Rainbow 6 games, and soon the long awaited and highly developed sequel to this amazing game will be released next year (hopefully) on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The second title will be highly expanded in size and weaponry, with present day setting whereby 3 main areas are designated for war – Central Europe, Southeast Asia and Africa. Maps can be filled up to hundred of combatants which should prove quite tactical and nerve racking, along with a big array of weaponry.
Graphically this game looks superb, and is being stated as the most realistic game to date with explosions set in full detail and environmental damage at realistic levels. For example, buildings which are continually pounded by tank shells will eventually shatter and become wiped out. Interestingly enough, this game has been in predevelopment for over 2 years meaning a lot of research has been going on behind this title – lets hope it pays off for Codemasters and us the gamers.
Keep your eyes peeled in the future for updates regarding the gameplay and multiplayer options! EA Games and Battlefield get ready for the true competitor!

Problem with OPeration Flashpoint is that it isn't the type of game that can easily find a mainstream selling niche, it's about extreme difficult which almost no, serious or otherwise, gamer can handle. It also probably has lost Bohemia as its developer so odds are it will be really, really crap and different to what it could have been.
btw those screenshots could be pre-rendered (wouldn't be surprised).

Critics are also saying that the game will not infact be called Operation Flashpoint due to changing developers. Lets just hope it does not get scraped...

Whatever Codemasters comes up with I don't mind, not a fanboy, hope they can make with a really good war sim, definitely hope it will be better than armed assault in that it will be an *improved* operation flashpoint, not the same thing recycled with better graphics and laggier fps...
