The Force Unleashed strangling an Imperial soldier in the Tie fighter bay
We've talked about The Force Unleashed before... it's the latest game from LucasArts, George Lucas' game studio, a Star Wars-themed game that allows you to step into the shoes of a Sith apprentice and wreak Force havoc on the universe.

Much talk has been made of the game, as LucasArts has developed an incredible physics engine to allow the player to interact with the environment. Check out this trailer:

You'll be able to play it on a variety of platforms, but the big consoles, XBox360 and PS3, will showcase the super-huge effects and destruction... the Wii version is downscaled somewhat.

Wired magazine has an interesting gameplay review, describing the action in the game.

"Of course, you've got plenty of other options. You can engage every enemy with your lightsaber or Force-push them away. This move can be charged up to unleash even greater destructive power -- at one point, the Lucas rep told me to stand in front of a massive covered bridge filled with Wookiees and charge up a Force push. I did, and the resultant wave of blue energy went straight down the bridge, flinging Chewbaccas into the ravine on either side and ruining the entire top of the structure. There's quite a bit of scenery that you cannot destroy, and for good reason: You can't ruin the bridge and make it impossible for yourself to get across and finish the level, for example."

Of course, Star Wars fans are up and excited for this. Finally, we get to destroy things with the powers of the Dark Side! Finally, we will get our revenge!

Left 4 Dead screenshot
Ugh. Rock, Paper, Shotgun has a selection of gameplay videos from the highly anticipated Valve game, Left 4 Dead, which is a 4-person coop shooter, pitting you and your mates against hordes of zombies.

Zombies, in dark places. Fast zombies, too, unfortunately, which shows how the gaming industry is matching steps with the Hollywood machine. Instead of Romero-zombies, we've got to deal with angry Dawn-of-the-Dead-remake zombies. What the hell

Grand Theft Auto IV using a mobile
For all its prostitutes and strip clubs, Grand Theft Auto IV has captured my imagination with another, seemingly minor feature, which helps creating a rich, living world.

Chris Baker on Wired posted an article marveling at the richness of the in-game media. Your character can, if you want, sit there and watch TV all day. Or surf the internet

Fighting bacteria in a petri dish
Steve Meretzsky won this year's GDC Design challenge with a game concept he calls Bac Attack, one of the most original and wonderfully creative ideas that I've heard in a long time.

The Force Unleashed force lightning shocking stormtroopers
It's not new news, but time has shown the rumours to be true.

Basically, over a year ago, a video was leaked from Lucasarts, perhaps intentionally, perhaps not

Mass Effect is the epic science fiction space opera from my hometown's best known developers, BioWare. It's a game that features enormous role playing environments, allowing you to seek out numerous planets and meet odd alien species.

It's doing reasonable sales, and it's gotten good reviews, with most people commending the dialogue in the game, saying that the character interactions were more interesting than the combat

Zero Punctuation logo
One of the best things to come out the gaming industry at the moment is the rueful brilliance of Ben Croshaw aka Yahtzee, a freelance reviewer/game designer who is the head of steam behind the really really popular Zero Punctuation reviews on The Escapist.

Check out his latest, a review of Crysis.

New Resident Evil films to be released!

November 4th 2007 13:12

I was not really happy with the previous 2 films based to the Resident Evil franchise (I still love the original film), but Capcom have teamed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to produce a whopping 3 feature films in CG-animation. These new films will follow a different storyline to what is already released and weather or not they will hit the cinema screen or DVD-first is yet to be decided.
