Mario slam dunks onto the DS
July 29th 2006 05:09
Mario Hoops 3 on 3 is set to be released on the DS this September and is no ordinary sports game. As you can tell by the title, this Nintendo title is a basketball game with the Mario world touch! Interestingly enough it was developed by Square Enix the company behind the great Final Fantasy series that has set the standard for the RPG scene on all consoles.
Gameplay in this title is quick paced with the main emphasis of getting your team to score points by getting the ball in their hoop, and gather as many coins as possible in the process. Rules in this game are almost none existent (compared to a proper basketball game) with players being able to steal, push and stop the other opponent from getting a slam dunk. Additionally, items such as green turtles and fireballs can be hurled at opponents when trying to get the ball (classic Mario game items). Every character in the game also has their own special moves that can be utlised by the stylus or a specific button on the DS.
Graphically, the game doesn’t disappoint in brings a nice range of courts and colours from the traditional Mario games. Players who are fans of the Mario series will be at home when playing this title with courts also filled with obstacles appropriate to a special Nintendo theme (the Donkey Kong has barrels which roll onto the court and must be avoided).
The ability to play wirelessly is also included in this title, with players being able to verse their friends in 3 on 3 battles. Wireless play is becoming a standard with handheld consoles these days, and just goes to show the advance in technology across the years (Sony of which also uses wireless play with its PSP).
Mario Hoops 3 on 3 is a fun and quirky title which sees Mario heading in almost every direction in sporting titles these days and is recommended for those who are fans of the series or just want an addictive and entertaining title to play while on the run.
