Mario 64 re-release on the Wii

Nintendo’s first title available on its ‘Virtual Console’ service is the classic Mario 64 title which boosted Mario’s status to immense proportions when it was released on the Nintendo 64 many years ago…but more over changed the face of platform gaming as we knew it. This time around, gamers can relive the Mario experience at a budget price and download the game onto their Wii. This will surely be a popular new service as Nintendo fans can download a whole heap of their old time favorite games from NES, SNES and N64 for low prices and for immediate play on their Wii.
So how does Mario play on the Wii? Well basically the same way it did on the N64! No real changes here, except the fact that gamers cannot really use the Wii controllers to move Mario around (to my current knowledge), but can input their old Gamecube controller into the Wii (for example) to run the game normally. Nifty concept…but how many gamers out there really have a GC controller lying around?
Graphically, many new gamers will surely be put off by Mario 64’s blocky graphics which really do look dated and show its 10 year age. But then again, gameplay is still rich with entertainment which is really what gaming is all about. If you do get a Wii, then spending a few dollars and playing this classic should really be a treat. Moreover, with such a large selection of Nintendo classics to choose from (when they finally all become available on Virtual Console) the Wii really looks like a nice little console to play with.
