Lumines heading Live! onto the Xbox 360

I recently purchased Lumines on my PSP and I can honestly say it is very addictive. Flashy graphics, funky tunes and innovative gameplay make this puzzle game a must buy title for any PSP owner. Xbox 360 owners are next in line for this ‘Tetris wanna-be’ title but this time with a stronger focus on online gaming.
Tetsuya Mizuguchi of Q Entertainment designed this title which is reminiscent to the classic title Tetris created by Alexey Pazhitnov in 1985. The main aim of Tetris (for anyone who has been living under a rock for the past 20 years) is to stack different shaped blocks within a rectangle as they fall from the top of the screen to the bottom. The more lines created by matching the ‘pieces of the puzzle’ (or blocks so to say) reduce the space on the screen and increase the speed of the block drop and increase your score (phew).
Tetsuya followed a similar style of gameplay, but only used a square block comprised of 4 inner squares which needed to be matched in squares and rectangles in order to be cleared. In addition to the puzzle element, players could make linking chains (hence combos) and key presses were linked to the music which made the game quite entertaining.
The Xbox 360 version of Lumines, will in fact follow the same structure as the PSP title but with added modes, music, graphics and of course the online function. Xbox 360 exclusive content includes new skins (which form graphical back drops in the game with accompanying music), downloadable content (such as new puzzles) and High Definition graphics.
A main selling point (other than the fact that this puzzle game is damn addictive) is the ability for players to enter an online arena. This is an excellent addition to the title, and will allow players to test their creative puzzle skills against other players across the globe!
An excellent title that should not be missed, the original Lumines is now available on the PSP with a release date for Lumines Live! on Xbox 360 yet to be released.
