Like to run a restaurant? Try Diner Dash 2!

October 8th 2006 06:25

Game developers can think of the weirdest game ideas, and sometimes they can really pull off a gem. When I read about this title I was drawn to the ‘sim’ type gameplay which has always been an addictive element in gaming for me ever since Theme Park and Theme Hospital. This game follows the same game elements as those ‘sim’ titles but this time allows the gamer to operate and manage a restaurant, or otherwise known as a diner.

This is the sequel to Diner Dash which I never really heard off but from what I have read, really improves on the flaws in the original. Basically, gamers will run a dinner and be able to seat customers into designated areas according to their profile and needs. For example, a mother and her noisy children should not be placed near a group of business men and women. Accordingly, a loud mouth using a mobile phone (known as a ‘cell phone addict) should be placed away from people who want a peaceful atmosphere as they eat their meal.

As players run the levels, a they will be able to modify their dinner’s cosmetic appearance for example paint colours and seating arrangements and items. This adds more of a ‘renovate’ element to the game which will prove picky for some, but really an enjoyable addition to the game. One problem which a lot of gamers have noted (which may not be a problem at all for some) is that levels will repeat themselves with the same people entering the dinner. Players will have to repeat certain procedures in serving these customers until they proceed to the next level. This really makes the game linear along with the fact that game difficulty might drop when levels become too hard to handle.

Dinner Dash 2: Restaurant Rescue looks like a nice little title and is set at a budget price (US$19.95). This may coincide with the graphic departments of the game but they do enough to make this game enjoyable and do the job well. A trial version of the game is available for free download on PC now and I suggest you try it out if you really like the ‘sim’ like gameplay mixed with some restaurant themes.

Pictures and triall download from here.
