Knights of the Old Republic 3 on the way?
June 10th 2008 03:57
Kotaku has an interesting inside scoop from some recently laid off Lucasarts employees, who decided to spill the news about upcoming Lucasian games.
Naturally, there's more Indiana Jones and Lego Indiana Jones, but of greatest interest to Star Wars fans is the announcement that there might be a Knights of the Old Republic 3!
Unfortunately for RPG fans, the new KOTOR title is looking to be an MMO release, which means a melancholic departure from the series' excellent writing and dedication to the Star Wars universe. Will KOTOR 3 be another Star Wars Galaxies debacle?
Of course, these are just rumours, so a pinch of skepticism is required. For all we know, Lucasarts might have decided to avoid the KOTOR universe.
That'd be a foolish move, though, as fans have a strong current of love for the first KOTOR, which really captured the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe, with travel to strange, unique worlds, battles with aliens, lots of lightsabre action and hot alien babes.
Well, I liked the alien babes. They weren't there to titillate, really, just to suit the atmosphere of the 'wretched hive of villainy', but it's still a great fantasty. Woo hoo!
Will KOTOR 3 continue with this tradition?
Will it manage to please rabid fans?

It was probably the only rpg that I ever finished.
Great, great game.
I really hope its doesn't end up an MMO, and it is just more of the same improved....I'm counting on it!

They can't just create this legendary character in Revan, and then ditch it halfway through. I want to know what happened to Revan after he left the galaxy! Who were the 'True Sith' he was chasing?? Argh, don't do this to me George Lucas!

Legacy feature. At endgame status, you can choose to have an offspring who will inherit some of your skills.
Fully customizable spaceships.
Companion NPC with possibility for romance.
Damn, I forget the rest. There were 10 distinct features. Oh well.

They are given the option to have a child. They begin the game from scratch but their new character "inherits" some traits from their previous kick-ass character.
This is unconfirmed but has been mentioned to me numerous times by various people in the industry. This was 100% related to a Star Wars MMO and I can't think of anything else that fits the bill. Sure there is SWG but lets face it, that game is done.
I'm not sure how I feel about that in a MMO. If you have to let your main character die to have it, that might work but you'll end up with overpowered characters after 6 months to 1 year. If they can balance this out somehow I think it will keep subscribers paying for much longer than they normally would.
