John Woo’s video game featuring…Chow Yun-Fat!

This team to me is the ultimate in movies. I have seen plenty of HK and US action flicks created by John Woo, and I am always captured by the crazy and stunning fighting scenes which are filmed in such a unique way by John Woo. This time around, gamers will have the opportunity to ‘live’ the movie experience when John Woo brings Stranglehold to the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox360 early next year.
Stranglehold is essentially a sequel to the film Hard Boiled, which has a very strong storyline and will be carried into this title. Players will play the character Inspector Tequila who is played by the voice and image of the real Chow Yun-Fat! Saying that, the game will run the Unreal Engine 3 which will really push computer cards and show what the PS3 and Xbox360 has to offer.
A main feature of this police and criminal action/thriller title is the use of slow-motion animation during battles which is prevalent in John’s films. We have seen the slo-mo feature in a lot of games such as the classic FPS Fear and even the Max Payne series which really utilised this feature (in memory to John Woo I would think!) extensively in the game. Stranglehold is stated to feature slo-mo but not controlled by the gamer. It will implemented automatically during battles (turning on and off) which will pace the game at different speeds throughout battles. Interesting but will it turn off gamers? Maybe not, since slo-mo would get used and abused quite often making the game boring quickly.
So playing a burnt out cop based on revenge is the duty of gamers with this title. I am looking very forward to this game but I hope it will not turn out like another silly GTA clone! I want action with strong story line to boot…Midway please don’t disappoint us!
