Hitman: Blood Money preview

Agent 47 returns in another epic assassin title, where stealth or rampaging attacks are utilised to eliminate human targets for income. With all the influx of stealth/action titles available on gaming consoles these days, what can Io Interactive provide gamers in order for them to fork out their hard earned cash (or parent’s money
Firstly we must look at the title itself and why it has become so popular. The first title in the series was Hitman: Codename 47, and was released on the PC way back in November 2000. Although the title was hindered with some slight flaws, the game became popular for its assassination missions and its action packed game play. Realising the strength of the title, Eidos proceeded to publish Hitman 2: Silent Assassin (which also featured on the PS2 and Xbox) 2 years later, and Hitman: Contracts in April 2004. The fan base for Agent 47 continually grew with some intriguing missions (which became pain stinkingly hard) and nice plot lines.
After a long wait, fans (and new gamers alike) will be treated to Hitman: Blood Money, which will also be released on the new-gen console the Xbox360. Playing in third person view, players will now take missions set lucrative locations such as a glamorous casino in Las Vegas and a stunning opera house in Paris.
As players complete missions, they will be rewarded accordingly for the methods they used to complete the hit (assassination) task. Stealth of course will result in higher profits over a “Rambo” outbreak which might cause havoc in the game and end with unnecessary civilian deaths. Players will then be able to mix and match a larger range of weapons to suit their styles with the profits they make for next missions.
A point which should be made about this title, which reflects more so the Xbox360 title, is the artificial intelligence created in relation to civilians and enemies in the game. AI characters will react and observe the actions you make during game play.
For example, after using a form of deadly etiquette (*ahem* piano wire) to take an enemy out, Agent 47 can throw the corpse over a balcony which can land on a busy street. Accordingly, civilians will gasp, run for cover and react in ‘human-like’ emotions to the scenario that just occurred. This adds an extra spark in game play which truly puts the player in the game where the actions they take are generally responded to not only by enemies but also by bystanders.
While hardcore stealth gamers might prefer Sam Fisher (from the Splinter Cell series) or Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid series), this title does follow the same style of game play but with “The Killer” (directed by John Woo and staring Chow Yun Fat) plotline.
Being a game of violent nature, this game is suited for an older teenage to adult audience.
Look for its release sometime June/Mid 2006 on the Xbox360, Xbox, and PS2.
