Gran Turismo…the motorbike way
July 8th 2006 07:20
The creators of the Gran Turismo series are back again, but this time with a motorcycle simulation named Tourist Trophy. The game solely revolves around motorcycle racing with two main modes of play; arcade and Tourist mode. Arcade allows the player to jump straight into the action and choose a bike from a range of brands including Yamaha and Suzuki and hit the track immediately. Tourist mode however starts the player with a small amount of bikes, with the ability to win more bikes as the player progresses.
That’s about it, a simple motorcycle game with very nice graphics and feel of motorbike racing. Although it may ‘feel’ like another Gran Turismo type of game, players will not really be able to buy a little weak bike and pour a heap of parts in upgrades to turn it into a wonder bike…this is not really available in this game as it was in Gran Turismo. I find that quite disappointing since it would really be interesting to be able to make money by winning races and buying upgrades.
Players have a choice of racing in over 120 real bikes which is a nice amount considering a comparison to Gran Turismo’s few hundred cars. Unfortunately, races will only have a maximum of 4 competitors which again is disappointing as other motorbike games have up to and over 16 competitors.
Overall the game does look like a nice piece of work from Polyphony Digital with excellent music and graphics, but does not really capture my eye in gameplay as Gran Turismo did. But for those who love motorbikes and are up for a pretty good ‘simulation’ racer in that field, then try this game out which is available now on the PS2.
