Gran Turismo HD cancelled on the PS3

Quite unfortunate really…but Sony has cancelled the high definition version of Gran Turismo which was going to be released on the PS3. A demo of the title however will still be downloadable for free for Japanese PS3 owners which will only contain 10 cars and 2 tracks. Once again, Sony continues to keep gamers waiting an ever-long time for titles which have a big name...but will annoy many gamers in general with the continual delay (even the PS3 was delayed far beyond its competition).
On the bright side, the team at Polyphony Digital will continue to place all its efforts in the new title in the series Gran Turismo 5. Better that than nothing, and my instincts is the developers have become either very lazy with completing HD within deadlines or felt that Gran Turismo HD might end up being too similar to the newer Gran Turismo 5 (running out of ideas and gaming engine).
All in all, fans of the GT series and car games alike will have to sit back and wait at least one year for Gran Turismo 5 (and that’s suggesting luck in release date). While Sony twiddles their thumbs in hope that the PS3 will outperform the Xbox 360 in this realistic car racing genre, I think Forza 2 (a strong competitor of GT) will really show what type of competition Microsoft will provide to Sony and perhaps lure away gamers who have enough of waiting years for a title to come out on the Playstation whereas other titles are released in months on other consoles.
