Glorious fighter jet play: Ace Combat X
November 6th 2006 00:34
Namco’s Ace Combat series has been running for quite some time now, and has never let down fans of the series or jet fighter games. Being so successful, Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception, is now available for the PSP and it looks quite nice in handheld format. Those familiar with the series will know that Ace Combat allows players to use a large range of real fighter jets with a multitude of realistic weaponry and HUD layout to take on enemies in mission based combat.
This has been replicated at an excellent level on the PSP version of the game, which doesn’t suffer too much graphical slowdown and hitches as we would expect from a handheld title. Players will expect to face missions which last from 10 to 15minutes in length and are rewarded new planes and upgrade options for their jets including interior and exterior plane upgrades. Don’t think that the game will be that easy, since players will need to restart the level from the beginning if they crash and burn (making precision play necessary!).
Multiplayer mode is included for the PSP version of the game, but only up to 4 players locally. No online play is set which is a letdown, but non-the-less gamers will be able to challenge each other in combat and chases which are common in this genre of games.
With 15 missions, gamers can expect to complete the game in about 8 hours. Don’t let this put you off, since replay value looks good with the great variety of jets and upgrades to be unlocked. If you like jet fighter games, and would like a new stir in handheld gaming with a challenge, then this it the title for you.
