Game On! salutes Good Old Games
July 24th 2009 08:09
I’d heard of Good Old Games from various websites - I think first it was Joystiq, then the Gamers with Jobs podcast and then recently it was at VGevo.com in the Interactive Distractions forum.
What got my attention was that Interactive Distractions was doing a review on a game from my favourite series of all time, the Tex Murphy series, because it was now available on Good Old Games.
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I could play Under a Killing Moon over and over again without getting sick of it. It’s got brilliant storytelling, sarcastic humour and great point-and-click gameplay. I went straight to www.gog.com and was even more amazed to see that not only would the game run on my Vista machine but it was only going to cost me $US9.99.
It didn’t end there.
I then saw that the sequel, The Pandora Directive, was also available for $US9.99.
But wait, there’s more.
I then saw that the third game in the trilogy, Overseer, was also available for, that’s right, $US9.99.
Needless to say I purchased all three games and the downloads have commenced. But there is so much more Good Old Games has to offer.
Browsing through their catalogue there is a fine selection of classic PC games including Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, Duke Nukem 3D, Evil Genius, Battle Chess, Broken Sword 2 & 3, Earthworm Jim, Fallout 1 & 2, MDK 1 & 2, Painkiller, Rise of the Triad and many, many more.
They’re all 100% DRM free meaning you can download the game as many times as you want and on any computer you want. It is fantastic.
Next week Game On!’s Main Event will be feature the Top 5 game’s we want to see on Good Old Games. You can participate by sending your Top 5 to gameonpodcastis@gmail.com. Any contributions will be read on the show.
