Forza 2 to kill the Gran Turismo series

September 9th 2006 06:56

Next month Microsoft Game Studios will release the next instalment for the realistic car sim, Forza. Forza 2 however will be released on the Xbox 360 only and after looking at the trailers and reading what is going to be included in the game, I am very impressed. Ever since Forza was released on the Xbox, Sony’s Gran Turismo had a true competitor for that ‘ultimate driving simulator’ title. Forza was loaded with features including a massive list of cars and tracks along with excellent multiplayer modes which saw players racing their modified cars against each other using Microsoft’s Live service.

This time around, Forza 2 improves on what it established in its first title with a selection of 300 cars and 60 tracks. Multiplayer modes will also allow up to 12 players per round which is 4 more than the original title allowed. Mods, mods and more mods are still available in this title...which is really the stand out for Forza. I was amazed to see the level of add ons and tuning players could put on their cars which could never be reproduced by other racing titles (except Gran Turismo of course!). None-the-less, I have always felt that Forza is truly deep with a range with a wide range of replays and performance testing which allows players to see a multitude of graphs and statistics that many people wouldn’t give 2 thoughts about…but an interesting wealth of knowledge for car enthusiasts.

Wireless steering wheels and wireless transfer of cars between gamers is some features that have been mentioned for this title but will become more official as the release date gets closer. At this current moment in time, Forza 2 will prove to be a BIG title for the Microsoft which should really bring in a larger amount of gamers to purchase the Xbox 360 (especially after the Playstation 3 delays for Euro and Australian gamers). More info as it comes through…

I don'thtink forza 2 can kill gran turismo. Its no more than microsofts answer to gran turismo.

Gran Turismo has a lot of heritage not to mention fan following. There are those who will kill for it...

It might be Microsoft's answer to GT but it has proved to be a good one...especially given the time span it has been out in comparison to the GT series.

Yeah I suppose thats true enough. But i doubt it will win over many GT fans, its like a brand name to them...

Not to be a party pooper but GT: HD is more of a tech demo than a game, sure it can handle one vehicle but multiply it by 12 add AI, damage and you might see the graphics get toned down quite a bit.

Having said that Polyphony Digital can really do some amazing things sometimes, we'll just have to wait and see.
