Finally a Sega Genesis (Mega-Drive) collection!
November 12th 2006 01:13
Well put aside the low collection titles that were released for the Dreamcast a while back, Sega is releasing a worthy collection for the PS2 and PSP which will be comprised of the finest Sega games to grace the Genesis over 10 years ago (or so). This will surely be a delight for many fans who can relive those childhood games and a chance for new gamers to experience the great games which lead the path to the games we play today.
Here is a list of games in the collection courtesy of Gamespot:
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Altered Beast
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco II: The Tides of Time
Ecco Jr.
Kid Chameleon
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium
Ristar
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Super Thunder Blade
Sword of Vermilion
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Virtua Fighter 2
That’s a top notch list of games, showcasing the best of what Sega had to offer (although I though Virtua Fighter 2 was on the Sega Saturn :/). Only 2 of the Sonic titles are there which is strange but might open up a ‘Collection Volume 2’ if this package is successful. This brings me to the point how Nintendo is releasing their own games but in a downloadable format for the Wii. This will include the whole library of Nintendo games dating back to the NES, SNES and N64! I wonder if Sega will continue to release its classic titles at a nice affordable price.
Hopefully there will be more Collections in the near future and the inclusion of other Sega games such as Streets of Rage and Double Dragaon which I favored so much in my childhood days. Ahhh the classics! This will be out by the end of November!

Strangely I was led to believe Nintendo bought out all of Sega's backcatalogue for their Wii console.
Anyhousen this is a classic package unlike other 'classic' packages that Atari and the like have brought out which aren't nostalgic but just drab.

Concerning Wii releasing Sega's games - I am not quite sure at the moment... they are however doing that with their own NES, SNES, and N64 games which will be downloadable on a pay for game basis!
