Final Fantasy Fables on the DS…quite childish really

Whenever someone mentions Squaresoft’s Final Fantasy, they think of epic role playing games in mystical worlds that span over 40 hours of gameplay. There is also another class of FF games which have sprung up over the years, and it revolves in mini-games such as tactics, and now Chocobo Tales which brings a FF card game onto the Nintendo DS. This game however does not follow those features I mentioned above, but is of a simpler, ‘fun nature which is aimed at the younger gaming audience who will find this game quite entertaining.
Essentially, gamers control a Chocobo in the FF world and must collect storybooks which unlock minigames. These minigames make good use of the nifty DS features such as the microphone (which gamers can blow in to shoot darts) and also heavy use of the Nintendo stylus in order to draw objects to propel Chocobos and draw maps. The minigames look quite fun and simple, with pretty little 2D graphics which are colourful and represent that FF charm.
Along with collecting the 120 cards scattered throughout the game, multiplayer mode is also available with players connecting in Wi-Fi and running the minigames. This is a nice addition which will keep friends happy as they compete for cards. I would suggest players looking for a RPG to get FF3 on the DS or better yet Pokemon Diamond. Expect this to hit shelves in April.
