Fight Night 3 packs a punch

Realism in boxing continues to get better as we begin the new-gen in gaming consoles and EA Sports doesn’t hold back with Fight Night 3. This title has been available on the Xbox 360 for some time now, and the PS3 is getting its own taste of some boxing action early next year.
With gamers opting to more and more realistic games these days, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of this title show graphically and sound-wise how real a boxing game can get. Players can see sweat, blood and continual injury to boxer’s body as matches progress – along with the bone crunching, muscle bruising sounds that emit when a boxer is hit at different forces.
Aside from the graphics and sound, Fight Night 3 also produces compelling gameplay with players using half to full circles to vary punches, hooks and even produce illegal head-butts and groin hits using the PS3’s own motion sensor technology in its joystick (simple but innovative). Mini-games are common in this title, with players attempting to patch up their boxer’s face during fight breaks in an effort to stop bleeding and limit fatigue. Mini-games are also persistent throughout training modes once players sign contracts with different sponsors as they fight their way to the top rank.
The PS3 version of the game gives players the ability to fight in first person mode. This is nifty game mode with player’s vision becoming blurred and impaired as they take hits to the head and fight for long periods of time. “Classic” fight modes are also present in this title, whereby players are treated to brief histories of important fights which they later take part in. This adds a bit more length to the gameplay but might not interest other gamers.
Online play is another feature which allows players to challenge each other from around the world in tournaments and acquire a rank. This game looks quite enjoyable, yet very violent. It just goes to show that even this ‘sport’ might not be suitable for the young ones…but more ‘mature’ gamers will find that this game will be very enjoyable between mates when they try to pull up different tactics and survive till the last blow. Highly recommended!
