Fast ‘n’ Furious Wii racing…Excite Truck

One of Nintendo Wii’s launch titles is the quick and daring racing game named Excite Truck…but is it really exciting? On first impressions this title looks like a car game with wings…players can practically ‘fly’ their car around the course and gain speed boosts to boot! Graphically the game looks nice with weather and blurs effects prevalent whilst the player’s truck zips through eye catching forests and deserts.
As I say with most of my analysis (so to say) on Wii games I usually refer to the controller scheme employed by the game developers. Yet again it is done nicely with this title as players use the controller in a tilt-like manner to steer their truck through obstacles and in the air. This accompanied by the acceleration boost by pressing buttons on the controller as the player twists the controller really adds a new dimension and level of enjoyment to the game.
Players can challenge their friends in multiplayer races and battles in split screen mode, however one downfall is the lack of more than 4 players or even an online mode. Another niggle with this game is the graphic textures which don’t look that nice up close. The blur effects help to ‘cover’ up this issue but none-the-less this game focuses on fun rather than jaw-dropping eye candy (the Xbox 360 and PS3 are made for that!
This is an interesting title which will hook the young ones on, but for me, it probably won’t hold my attention too long as it looks quite repetitive and will get dull after the game is complete. Good launch title if you are into car racing games with high speed and risky maneuvers.
