DS gets Final Fantasy XII

Sounds strange but Square Enix will be bringing Final Fantasy XII-Revenant Wings to the Nintendo DS in the coming year. This title might look like a ‘potential port’ from the PS2 title to the DS, but is something which I truly doubt due to the complexity of the PS2 graphics compared to the DS. Square has stated that this title will focus on another type of gameplay with differing storyline and of course gameplay to the original title.
The original FFXII is selling like hotcakes in Japan, and this title will surely help boost Nintendo DS’s market share against Sony’s PSP. Moreover, this title will make use of the touch screen and various other DS specialities including the duel screen and potential wireless involvement for multiplayer gaming.
It might be too early to tell where this title will be heading, but along with Final Fantasy III which is also heading the Nintendo DS, will really close that ‘drought’ of high quality hand held gaming which in my opinion has been missing on both handheld consoles. I just hope that Square can produce an addictive, innovative and challenging RPG for the DS, and not just use the brand name to create sales.
