Co-op online zombie survival horror? = Left 4 Dead!

When I heard about this title I was so overjoyed! Since I am an avid fan of Resident Evil style survival horror games this title to me is a breakthrough in this genre of games which is dominated primarily by Capcom’s Resident Evil series and Konami’s Silent Hill series. Now Turtle Rock, the team which help developed the seriously addictive Counter-Strike: Source, has created a similar title but with online co-op play. This is a very interesting game concept which can see up to a team of 4 ‘un-infected’ challenge teams of ‘infected’ players.
The basic storyline follows an outbreak of a disease (in a highly populated city – duh), with a group of uninfected joining together to escape death while challenging infected zombies. Players must work in teams at all times or they risk perishing if they try to ‘Rambo’ their way through levels. Infected teams will be able to use their own fighting techniques such as acid spitting, long whip-like tongues and are categorized into 4 different infected groups (with different skills). Different characters will be able to ‘tank’ their way through levels, where others must play ‘hide-and-seek’ to avoid detection and kill their enemy.
Online and co-op play is the most significant aspect to this game which I think will surly help it sell like hotcakes on the Xbox360 and PC when it is released. The mere concept of being able to play both sides in a survival horror atmosphere is damn fun and I can not wait! Steam will power this game as well, which will provide a high amount of updates overtime which will keep the game fresh and enjoyable in the long run (well sorta – look at CS: Source which many people still play!). Expect this title to be released mid-year!
