Console games cheaper than ever

The other day I wandered into my local Gaming Wizards store (a store specialising in the sale of video games as the name suggests
EBgames (another specialised gaming store) recently had their own ‘massive’ mid-year sale and also had a large range of titles at low prices. Interestingly you may ask, why would a gamer exchange their game (which they probably paid more than $50 in the first place) to get some measly dollars in return (ranging from $10-$20)? Well Wizards, for example had a deal where gamers who traded in their Xbox or PS2 console with an additional 25 original titles could buy an Xbox 360 for only $199. Now it sounds oddly nice…$199 for an Xbox 360 but then again…the original cost price of the Xbox 360 is around $650 so do the calculation…is the gamer really making a loss or profit.
Anyways, gamers are gamers and tend to move on to another title with little care in the world at the amount of money they are spending (well a lot do in my opnion!). Having seen the low prices in physical stores, I decided to log onto my trusty eBay account to see how much games for PS2 and Xbox were selling online. Yet again, low prices…but this time lower than usual with prices ranging from $5-$25 (for reasonably good titles). It seems that the market is now saturated with games that no one wants to play anymore. In addition to that, the new-gen consoles are leading the path and replacing the dated PS2 and Xbox. Hence the theory of supply and demand holds true. Mind you…PS3 is rumoured to sell around $1000 on release date (and truly so according to marketing rules were only the niche of the market will be able to pay and play for that high price). EBgames is having a similar deal to Gaming Wizards with the trade in offer…exactly the same deal however an Xbox and 25 games will give you the opportunity to purchase a PS3 for around $700 (if I can remember correctly). Hmmmm…is it really worth it?
Expect all next-gen consoles including the Sony Playstation 3 and Nintndo Wii to be released around November/December in time for Christmas. Let the money roll…
