Classic Japanese adventure: Okami
August 8th 2006 13:16
With an English release this September, Capcom is unleashing another title to its brilliant line of games and this time gamers will be treated to an epic action RPG game. Okami is truly a Japanese title as the storyline goes which takes place in Japanese mythology setting where the sun goddess Amaterasu (the main character controlled by the character) is pit into battle against Orochi, a demon with many heads that is imposing pain and destruction on villagers in its path.
Interesting concept and one of which has captured the hearts of Japanese gamers (and hopefully that of gamers around the world). The gameplay is not turn based like traditional RPG titles, but action (time) based whereby the character and its enemy attack one another at the same time. This gameplay is becoming increasingly popular as we have seen with Namco’s Tales of Symphonia.
Players will take on quests given by NPCs including humans and animals, with a variety of awards such as stronger attacks and spells given when completing tasks (your traditional RPG elements). Battles will come thick and fast whilst roaming the map, with bosses giving players an added challenge to find weak points and infiltrate them to win (again been there done that).
Graphically, this game is quite jaw dropping and it must be due to the cell shaded animation used similar to that of the Viewtiful Joe series released by Capcom earlier. This is a fresh appeal in the graphics department and works quite well in this title which really shows that the PS2’s hardware still packs a punch.
I think I will join the que when this title is released as it is scoring rave reviews globally and Capcom Japanese RPG can’t go wrong! Keep your eyes peeled for this title this September (unless of course you have already played the Jap release
