Chinese lady makes $1 million from playing online game!

November 30th 2006 13:49

Crazy to say but its true…I stumbled across this article and was quite shocked to see that such a massive profit was acquired from playing an online game! This game is Second Life which has captivated the minds, money and life of countless people across the world. Funny enough, the game plays like a Sims world, where by players convert their real money into gaming money and purchase land, real-estate, furniture etc in an online world. This world doesn’t stop and acts like our real world – players interact with one another, perform jobs, and make relationships.

How did Anshe Chung achieve this massive feat of $1 million profit from Second Life? Answer is - by using real life real estate tactics to buy land, build property and sell it to other gamers for real life cash over time. Anshe started with an initial $9.95 and over 32 months got the million in profit. Sounds so sad …but there are many gamers out there who really want to live an ‘online’ life compared to a real one. Don’t call me a ‘hater’ cause I have been a gamer all my life (since 4) and I have seen and played the range of titles from FPS to RPGs (online included) and seen countless stories of their disastrous effects on people socially.

Anshe is now increasing her ‘work force’ from 25 to 50 people in this ‘real estate’ business conducted online in Second Life. Disgusting I might say, which draws me to World of Warcraft and the amount of farmers who have (in my view) destroyed WoW’s concept of having good clean fun. For those who don’t know what farmers are, all they do is look for items and keep doing repetitive –farm like – duties in the game such as mining gold and selling it for in game cash. Moreover, power leveling is the concept where gamers pay a group of people (which they call themselves a company) to level up their character for some ridiculous price. This is one of the main reasons I left WoW and don’t look positively on online RPG scene at this present moment in time.

Well I might get angry at how new gamers are ‘paying’ their way to the top…which really defeats the purpose of gaming…but people like Anshe and controllers of power leveling services have found a niche market and have profited big time. That is something they should be complemented on…and goes to show how stupid the new generation of gamers is becoming.

Heh, art imitating life.
You have to be amazed at how 'life-like' these new characteristics of WoW has gotten though.
