Capcom’s new zombie killer…location: Shopping Mall

July 1st 2006 11:42

Capcom are set to release the gruesome and comical Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 this September. The main character Frank West is a photo journalist who has been informed that a big event is occurring in Willamette Parkview Mall (a typical American shopping centre). Rushing down to the scene, the mall is filled with a mass of mindless zombies and it is Frank’s job to take pictures of the zombies (and destroy any that get in his way).

The gameplay looks quite nice with the player placed in a 3rd person perspective (similar to that of the GTA series), and is given a camera and the ability to pick up almost any object and use it as a weapon against zombies. As I mentioned earlier, the player must take pictures of zombies and survivors (in various stunning or gruesome scenarios) to acquire points and progress.

What is really striking about this game is the ways in which Frank can kill zombies. From the footage I have seen, players can use weapons such as computer monitors, massive swords, paint cans and even light sabres! Additionally, this game has a LOT of blood and gore. When the player kills a horde of zombies, it almost looks like it has rained blood (even flooded!).

The game does look interesting and Capcom have great experience in creating zombie/survival horror games as we have seen from the Resident Evil series, so this title should look to please. On the other hand, the title would not be advised for children to play…and I would think that the amount of blood, gore and violence in this game would be a selling point (and a controversial one too).

See the trailer at the Official Website.
