Broken Sword 4…but is it worth it?

When I was in high school I adored point and click games filled which contained nifty little puzzles and a strong storyline. Sam and Max, Dementia and Escape from Money Island (just to name a few), really made it big back then with Lucasarts leading the way. Broken Sword by Revolution Software was also a big hit and a title which I really enjoyed. Broken Sword 1 the Knights Templar and 2 the Burning Mirror were excellent titles for their time and had a top storyline to boot. I was however VERY disappointed with Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon.
BS3 for all those who are fans of the series, know that this title was the title’s transition from 2D to 3D format for George Stobbard. At first I found this premise interesting but was saddened to see the simplicity and ‘block’ graphics which plagued the nature of the game. One issue that really irritated me with this title (and I bought it on the Xbox) was the amount of bugs and other annoyances in the game! Graphic clipping and bugs in puzzles along with repetitious sounds and music really got on my nerve. It was so bad, during the wine room puzzle (in the Castle) the game ‘crashed’ (yes it paused) and I didn’t save for over 2 hours of gameplay! The result? …turning the game off, and selling it immediately before the disc was snapped in half!
I truly hope that when this title is released at the end of this year, the game’s developers can avoid such problems in graphics and gameplay. To note, this title will only be released on the PC, which is strange but perhaps a marketing ploy to focus on the sales in the PC market where the game sold best (I would also think console gamers don’t really like puzzle games of the Broken Sword nature…).
Check out Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death within the next few months.
