Battlefield 2142 out in just over a week!
October 9th 2006 10:02
Yes that’s correct, the game is set to be released on October the 17th and the hype has started (if it hasn’t already been for a long time). This is not necessary a sequel to Battlefield 2 which remains very popular online, but more of a new environment and atmosphere in the Battlefield franchise which is set just under 150 years into the future. As you would expect with such a date, the gameplay utilises futuristic weaponry and vehicles which will appease many gamers who love mechs!
All the traditional elements of a first person shooter is found in this title, including the ability to be a ‘commander’ and possess a variety of team controlling commands and abilities including UAV, satellite scans and an EMP shockwave which disables electronic devices and vehicles in an area for a certain amount of time. This all assists players in conquering maps and gaining check points as we saw in Battlefield 2.
The storyline looks decent, which sets the players in either a European or Asia/Russia position set in snowy, run down city like environments. Kinda reminds me of the futuristic scenes in the film Terminator 2 and 3 where we see humans battle robots in gruesomely destroyed environments. This of course will create a massive headache for many gamers as myself who don’t really have the highest machine specs to play this title at optimal performance. Arghh…time to grab more RAM and even upgrade the graphic card. But I question myself…is it worth it? BF2 was quite addictive but I still find myself playing CouterStrike Source which doesn’t chew up as many resources.
Anyways, Dice and EA Games will not go wrong with this title and expect it to be a massive online gaming hit. Get ready to throw away your evenings when this title is out!
