Another military cash in title during war...

Joint Task Force (JTF) is an upcoming release by Sierra Entertainment and in my opinion looks like another military title running rounds like the classic Command and Conquer series. If you haven’t heard of this title yet, it is scheduled for release this September and places the player in strategic command of a group of characters who must accomplish missions (focusing on the real time strategy genre). Not only does this sound similar to the C & C type games but also the Commandoes titles which also had the same style of gameplay.
In relation to Commandoes, the characters in JTF will also have special abilities which must be used in specific situations to proceed (for example an engineer who must fix or destroy a certain object). Players will also control tanks and helicopters which range in difficulty of control according to which specific character is used.
When I see titles of this nature released I wonder if it has anything to do with the current state of global wars and whether this is just another cash in title to lure young gamers who think war is ‘cool’ or ‘aggressive’. Placing military war into a videogames has become popular these days with the likes of Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2 and America’s Army (of which was created and distributed for free to lure young people into joining the army…sort of training mode).
I think such games desensitise gamers from the real misery of war and as they grow, become accustomed to war as a natural thing. Maybe you have lost track of what I am saying…but just have a thought and see how games such as this title change the ‘caring’ mind state of people over time. War at the end of the day is real and not a computer fantasy.
