Another Brain game for the DS…

But this time it seems to be a poor one at that. Brain Boost: Beta Wave is not a release by Nintendo (which the other Brain games on the DS came from), but by Majesco. It seems to me that Majesco are trying to get a part of the profit of the ‘IQ’ type games which have become very popular on the Nintendo DS.
Even so, Majesco hired their own ‘smart guy’ to create the puzzles Makoto Shichida (Nintendo hired Ryuta Kawashima). Not trying to be harsh here, but Ryuta is more renowned as a brain researcher whereas Makoto may not be. This reflects pretty much so on the puzzles which are displayed in the game. They are set in 20 multiple choice questions which have 4 choices in each. At the end the gamer is given a ranking so to say of their brain.
Puzzles are set into 2 areas. Beta Wave which is filled with concentration puzzles whereas Gamma Wave is memorization. Puzzles range from counting particular objects on the screen to remembering specific patterns. This will get quite boring pretty quick and is not close to the level of puzzles and evaluation as provided in Brain Academy created by Nintendo.
This title is getting pretty bad reviews and I can see why. A quick and simple game which is trying to make its name on the back of Nintendo’s Brain Academy. Try Brain Age or Brain Academy before you get this game. Otherwise, save your money for a better DS game…Pokemon Diamond perhaps
