A Tekken challenger arrives: Virtua Fighter 5
January 21st 2007 10:28
I have always been a fan of Namco’s Tekken series, but there has always been a fighter game which performs very well but was always in the shadows of the King of the Iron Fist. This title was Sega’s Virtua Fighter which has come a long way since we saw it on the Sega Saturn so long ago. This February, Sega will bring the newest and greatest episode of their fighter to the Xbox360 and PS3, and it is looking arcade-perfect.
VF5 plays very similarly to VF4 which was released on the PS2 a while ago. None-the-less, the graphics look very very fine in this title, with unique skin, clothing and level designs (with their own moving and interactive environment), and really pumps out the eye-candy available on these new-gen consoles.
Fighting remains quite fluent with a variety of fighting styles and combo strings which will keep new players to professionals of the series happy indeed. There is also an adventure type mode which players can beat up a horde of enemies to sharpen up their skills and also unlock new items. One aspect of the game which is missing I think is multiplayer battle which isn’t really amplified by the title. Gamers are not able to challenge each other across the globe, but can access an online database of replays and other online nonsense which is for die hard fans only. I am heavily recommending this title, which should keep many players pre-occupied before Tekken 6 comes out later this year.
